United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women (UMW) at Bethia exists as a local unit but is connected to the James River District, the Virginia conference, and the national policy making body for UMW.  Our local unit at Bethia is comprised of two circles.  The Susanna Wesley circle, meets at 10:00 AM the second Tuesday of each month.  The Loretta Gruver circle meets the first Tuesday each month at 7:00 pm.  We meet as a combined unit on the third Tuesday.   All meetings are held in Room 10.  Major annual projects include providing valentine care packages for sick and shut-ins, Mother/Daughter banquet, Fall Craft sale, and bake sales throughout the year.  Entire proceeds from fundraisers benefit mission projects.  We welcome any woman who would like to join us.

We operate with the following purpose:

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons  through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.”

United Methodist Women are committed to:

“channeling efforts and resources to provide for those in need, growing in faith through relationship with each other

“being agents of change by analyzing systems that promote oppression and seeking alternatives to those systems   living out their faith by being involved in acts of justice and mercy  creating and seeking opportunities to participate in church and society.”

The United Methodist Women provides leadership education which is central to its mission.  Every year members participate in study and training with the unique focus on expanding their skills, knowledge and abilities for better understanding and service.

Training for the members and friends of United Methodist Women is available in a variety of ways and sources.   Some training is developed specifically for officers and persons in leadership positions.   Other training is tailored to those who want to become involved and are seeking information on specific issues.” (Women’s Ministries Guidelines)
